Catholic Missions Australia Christmas Card

As we celebrate the 12  days of  Christmas I greet my diverse social media  network with the universal message of peace on earth and good will to all.

I wrote this piece some years ago. It bears repeating just as our work of building peace and community is a constant refrain to life’s song.

May the ancient story of a child born in occupied territory open our hearts to the work of defending human rights.

May the birth of every child call us to our communal responsibility to protect children,to take them on wild adventures and to let them grow into the unique person they care called to be.

May the the image of a family forced to seek refuge and asylum far from their home inform our political choices as citizens of a global village.

May our messages of good wishes and happy holidays not blind us to the work of justice making and non-violence.

May the lights and decorations of the season remind us of our mission to bring light to the darkness and celebration to life.

May our gifting be generous as we remember those who live in situations of poverty and exploitation.

May we hear angelic voices singing our dream of peace on earth

Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide. The Movember Foundation runs the Movember charity event, housed at Movember.com. Wikipedia

#Movember time and the Mo on day 13 is light but stylish. This year I am part of the team from my old High School, St Joseph’s College Geelong. The funds we raise will help to address issues of men’s health and well being.

Politics

Another example of the lack of any ethical culture in this current Federal Government. The sooner we relieve ourselves of this cartel and install real politicians in Canberra the better. The Morrison Government’s Attorney-General, Christian Porter, has the power to shut down this outrageous prosecution. He should. People that expose government wrong-doing should be thanked – not sent to prison.

The case of two men charged with revealing that the Australian Government bugged the highest levels of the East Timorese Government is heard in court for the first time in Canberra.

Image of the Month

I was out and about today when a women approached me and asked “ Aren’t you Tony Robertson ?”. I replied “Yes” She then said “ Look I know we haven’t met before but could I have a photo with you?” I was happy to oblige as it seems this women is hoping to get work in media and appreciated the opportunity to be seen with an online celebrity!!! Keep an eye out for her. She said her name was Ita.

Tony”s Will

41667342_10156864388312033_6589598074044153856_nToday I went along to a seminar on Wills and Bequests. I really don’t expect to have much left in the account when I start climbing that Stairway to Heaven so bequests aren’t really an issue. My will I suspect will primarily contain details of my Requiem desires and enough for a decent wake.

I am happy to send out final shout outs in the document so let me know if you would like to be included in the life credits roll call.

Today’s session included a chat with the State Library Foundation staff and arrangements for an assessment of my personal memorabilia as a possible donation in lieu of a bonfire or extra trip to Vinnies. Part of pre death planning is to archive what is fast becoming a major collection of digital images.

Not sure if I want to continue having an online presence post ashing although I suspect I will continue to get into a google search for birthdays I can’t attend. Open to volunteer social media geeks who want to keep me posting into eternity.

It’s really challenging when you don’t have heirs as such for whom you are responsible or who can lay claim to your physical heritage. Add to that the tyranny of distance which probably inhibits extended family members travelling interstate to lay claim to your microwave or fridge. Pity the poor executor with all those trips to Vinnies

So now it’s off to write the document and make sure it is legit with witnesses, signatures and no cartoons. I’m tempted to include my own eulogy and some background music for a series of public readings.

There is probably a little irony in doing this seminar on #RUOK Day
